Canine Behaviour: Counselling (Theory) *

Open College Network Accreditation
(12 credits at Level 3)

This course provides the theory required by those who wish to practise as Behaviour Counsellors, providing remedial advice to owners who are experiencing a wide range of problems with their dogs. This work requires a sound understanding of dog behaviour, and is usually carried out within the owner's home. It may include the practitioner providing or supervising some remedial training for the dog, and thus experience in dog training is essential. The course will extend the student's knowledge of canine behaviours, the causes of problem behaviours, and their modification. It also covers the organizational aspects of running a counselling business. Students must have satisfactorily completed the Advanced Canine Psychology course, or Diploma in Dog Training Class Instruction (part two), or an equivalent level of study to be accepted on to this course.
